WHAT IS BOTOX FOR SWEATING?

What is Botox for sweating?

The use of onabotulinumtoxinA therapy in patients with excessive sweating was approved by the National Food and Drug Administration in the United States in 2004.

OnabotulinumtoxinA is a natural, purified protein that has the ability to temporarily block the secretion of the chemical responsible for "opening" the body's sweat glands. By blocking or interrupting this chemical messenger, botulinum toxin "turns off" sweating in the area where it is injected. Botox injections are very superficial, meaning the medication is injected just below the skin surface.

Research shows that treating excessive sweating of the armpits, hands, feet, head and face, and other body areas (such as under the breasts) with onabotulinumtoxinA is safe and effective. Botox has been shown to reduce sweating by 82-87%. Results begin to be noticed approximately 2 to 4 days after treatment, and full effects are usually noticeable within 2 weeks. Dryness typically lasts 4 to 12 months, but some studies have found it can last up to 14 months. published research,

Repeated treatment with Botox has been shown to be safe and effective for hyperhidrosis, providing significant, long-lasting improvements in the symptoms, daily functioning, and quality of life of a patient who persistently sweats excessively. Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis has also been scientifically proven to increase productivity at work. While sweating is an essential body function for temperature control, certain body areas host only a small percentage of the body's sweat glands (for example, the armpits host less than 2% of the body's sweat glands). The functioning of sweat glands has little to do with body thermoregulation.
